My Little Creative Writer

Parker is working on creative writing and loving it!!!
He basically dictates a story to me, I type it and tweak it just a little. Before we start with the story we brainstorm and "collect our thoughts up" as Parker says. We write down possible characters, settings and troubles they could possibly get into. We make a list of descriptive words that we can pull from and stick in our story.
Sometimes it is fun to just take something silly and describe it to death. We took apart the words chewing gum the other day and got amazing words like flexible and gooey. This is great for getting more descriptive in their story telling abilities and creates the fun and enjoyment to WANT to do the work.
Here is Parker's latest MASTERPIECE

How Elves Train Puppies

By Parker Stockbridge 3rd Grade

The house smelt like Pine needles and cinnamon sticks. It was Christmas time and Santa’s littler helper Grant had been sent in his box too look after Parker and Cohen. Grant comes to the Stockbridge house every year and reports back to Santa on weather the boys are naughty or nice.

The next morning the Stockbridge Family left the house and when they returned they were holding a box with holes in the lid. They placed the box down on the ground and began to open it. Out popped a cute, tiny puppy. As you could imagine this was very scary for Grant. He had never seen a dog in the Stockbridge house or even Santa’s house for that matter.

Usually Grant travels back to the North Pole at night to check in with Santa and visit his friends Chuck Chuck and Ennis, but this Puppy was going to make things a bit more difficult. So, he quietly slipped out the back door and flew off to the North Pole. He had no time to check in with Santa, because he needed the help of his good elf friends. Ennis said he had some sleeping powder for the dog in a bag in his room and would be happy to let Grant borrow it. Chuck Chuck said he would be happy to tie the dog’s legs with dental floss, but Grant thought Santa would not like either idea. Ennis and Chuck Chuck knew Grant had a problem, so they decided to go back to the Stockbridge house with him. Chuck Chuck, being the sneaky and silly elf he is, brought the dental floss just in case.

Back at the Stockbridge house it was dark only slightly lit by the lights of the Christmas tree. Through the back door the three little elves spotted the puppy chewing on a shoe in front of the fire. The elves thought the puppy was too busy to notice that they had snuck inside, but the puppy spotted them and stopped chewing the stinky shoe and suddenly ran after them. Chuck Chuck grabbed his dental floss and when Grant saw it he was surprised because he thought it had been left behind. Chuck Chuck threw the dental floss like a cowboy onto the hat hanger, grabbed his friends and swooped through the air like Indiana Jones. There they waited for what seemed like five hours.

Ennis thought of a great idea, they would all slip down the floss and bribe the dog with the christmas treats Ennis had in his pocket. All three of them slipped down to the floor where the puppy began to get closer and closer. They felt puppy breath blow their hair back and it sure was smelly. Ennis threw all of his peppermint treats into the puppy’s stinky mouth. After a lot of licking and crunching the puppy was happy. That silly puppy licked the three little elves so hard it knocked them back onto their bottoms.

From that day forward the puppy and the elves became friends and Grant knew to always carry peppermint treats in his pocket and dental floss just in case.
